Together, they have formed PT Duta DeRUCCI Indonesia, a joint venture dedicated to expanding the marketing, retail networks, and the overall ecosystem of smart beds across the nation. This isn't just about importing luxury goods; it's a long-term play to integrate advanced technology into the local landscape.

Anthony Setiawan, President Director of Duta Abadi Primantara, highlighted that the collaboration covers everything from exclusive distribution to licensing agreements. Crucially, both companies are exploring the possibility of technology transfer and local assembly. If future products can meet the requirements for Local Content Requirements (TKDN), there is a strong intent to manufacture or assemble these smart devices right here in Indonesia, potentially boosting the local tech-manufacturing sector.

The Science of the DeRUCCI T11+ AI Mattress

At the heart of this launch is the DeRUCCI T11+ AI Mattress, a product that blends sophisticated AI sensors with ergonomic engineering. Unlike traditional mattresses that remain static, the T11+ uses a smart sensing system to detect changes in position and pressure distribution as they happen. When a sleeper turns over or shifts their weight, the mattress makes micro-adjustments to maintain optimal spinal alignment and support.

One of the most impressive features is the dual-zone independent support system. This allows two people sharing a bed to customize their side of the mattress according to their unique preferences. One partner can opt for a firmer feel while the other enjoys something softer, with the AI managing both independently. Furthermore, the mattress is divided into five distinct zones—focusing on the shoulders, back, waist, hips, and legs—to provide targeted relief where it is needed most.

Research cited by the company from the China Sleep Research Society suggests that the T11+ can significantly improve sleep quality. Their data indicates that the mattress can reduce the time it takes to fall asleep by 37.3%, decrease tossing and turning by 21.5%, and increase total sleep duration by 20.8%. While these statistics are promising, it is important to remember that sleep quality is subjective and influenced by various factors like stress, room temperature, and general health habits. It is also worth noting that this mattress is a lifestyle product, not a medical device intended to diagnose or treat specific conditions like scoliosis without professional medical advice.

Engineering for the Tropics and Beyond

Recognizing the unique environment of Indonesia, DeRUCCI has adapted its products for a tropical climate. Beyond the AI features, the mattresses utilize materials designed for high air circulation and incorporate anti-fungal and anti-mite technologies. This ensures that the sleeping environment remains hygienic and comfortable even in areas with high humidity and temperatures.

Behind these innovations lies a massive investment in research and development, exceeding US$32 million and involving over 500 engineers. DeRUCCI is also collaborating with the prestigious MIT Media Lab on the "Fiber Circuit" project. This ambitious initiative aims to develop smart fibers that integrate sensors and computing directly into the fabric, a technology that could eventually find its way into fitness gear, healthcare equipment, and a wide range of smart home products. For now, however, the focus remains on perfecting the art of sleep through the power of AI.
