The digital landscape in Indonesia is shifting rapidly, and Biznet is positioning itself right at the center of this evolution. Following the launch of 'The New Biznet Fiber'—a high-performance fiber optic network boasting advanced technology and significantly enhanced bandwidth—the company is now setting its sights on a specific powerhouse: the Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) segment. This move isn't just a minor pivot; it is a calculated strategy backed by a massive US$ 120 million investment dedicated to total hardware and infrastructure upgrades.

Strategic Growth and Market Composition

With the digital economy booming, Biznet’s VP of Marketing, Yudie Haryanto, has expressed a high degree of optimism regarding their 2019 trajectory. By tapping into the SME market, Biznet aims for a 40% growth rate. This expansion is fueled by a balanced market approach where the company maintains a 50:50 ratio between retail customers and business clients. This equilibrium ensures that while they cater to individual households, they are equally invested in providing the robust connectivity required for professional environments.

To serve these diverse needs, Biznet has structured its services into three distinct pillars. For residential users, there is Biznet Home. For the booming SME sector, they offer Biznet Metronet. Finally, for large-scale enterprises that require unwavering stability, they provide Biznet Dedicated Internet. This tiered approach allows them to provide tailored solutions rather than a one-size-fits-all product.

Targeted Industries and Regional Hotspots

Biznet isn't just spreading its net wide; it is being surgical about which industries it targets. Beyond the obvious culinary scene, which has seen a digital revolution of its own, Biznet sees massive potential in music aggregator companies that often operate out of home offices. Furthermore, the software development scene is a key priority. Cities like Yogyakarta, which have become breeding grounds for new tech talent and startups, are prime areas where Biznet’s high-speed infrastructure can make a tangible difference.

Rapid Geographic Expansion

As of early 2019, Biznet successfully completed its Fiber Java-Bali network, covering both the Northern and Southern routes. But the expansion doesn't stop there. The company is actively preparing to light up new networks in Central and East Java, specifically in Blitar, Jepara, and Tayu. On a national scale, the reach is extending to Kalimantan with developments in Pontianak, and to Sumatra with a focus on Bandar Lampung.

By May 2019, Biznet’s footprint had already reached 112 cities and 1,700 sub-districts (kelurahan) across the Java-Bali region. With a total customer base of 140,000—comprising both retail and business accounts—and 13 new cities in the pipeline, the company's physical infrastructure is growing as fast as its market share.

The Tech Behind the Speed: The New Biznet Fiber

What makes this growth possible is the underlying technology of The New Biznet Fiber. This infrastructure isn't just a standard upgrade; it’s a future-proof system designed to handle the demands of the next decade. The core consists of a Terabit Core Router network and a 10G/100G Metro Ethernet distribution network. For high-density buildings like offices, hotels, and apartments, Biznet utilizes this Metro Ethernet technology to ensure consistent high-speed delivery.

One of the most critical features for business continuity is the redundant and protected ring system. This architecture ensures that if a backbone fiber optic cable is cut on one side, the system automatically provides protection, keeping the connection alive. This network boasts a staggering capacity of up to 100 Gbps.

Empowering the Last Mile with GPON

For the 'last mile'—the connection that actually enters a home, office, or shop—Biznet utilizes GPON (Gigabit Passive Optical Network) technology. This is a Full Fiber Optic solution that delivers services directly to the customer’s premises. The latest GPON iteration can deliver speeds up to 2.5 Gbps. To complement this, the Optical Network Terminal (ONT) devices provided to customers are equipped with the latest Wi-Fi technology, ensuring that the high-speed data transfer isn't bottlenecked by poor wireless hardware.

To support this massive network, Biznet also operates three strategic data centers located in Jakarta, Bali, and Gunung Putri. The Gunung Putri facility is particularly noteworthy, standing as a Tier-3 facility on 10,000 square meters of land, serving as the backbone for their data-heavy operations.
