Indonesia’s technology landscape is on the verge of a major transformation as artificial intelligence moves from a buzzword to the core of business innovation. In a significant move to accelerate this shift, Google Cloud has officially partnered with the Ministry of Communication and Digital (Kemkomdigi) to launch a dedicated program titled "Google for Startups Accelerator Southeast Asia: Indonesia, AI-Focused." This initiative is specifically designed to nurture homegrown startups that are leveraging generative AI and agentic AI as their foundational technologies.

Speaking at a press conference in Jakarta on Thursday, May 22, 2025, Fanly Tanto, Country Director of Google Cloud Indonesia, emphasized that the program aims to provide comprehensive support to 100 Indonesian startups. The goal is to help these companies move beyond basic implementation and focus on building sophisticated products and solutions where AI is the central engine. By doing so, Google Cloud and Kemkomdigi hope to see these innovations penetrate new market sectors both domestically and internationally.

A Proven Track Record of Success

Google Cloud is no stranger to the Indonesian startup scene. The company’s commitment to the local digital economy is backed by impressive statistics. Currently, about 25 percent of all startups in Indonesia have been supported by the Google for Startups Accelerator program. Furthermore, 57 of these companies have grown to become key players in the national digital economy. Perhaps most tellingly, Google notes that 70 percent of Indonesia’s unicorn companies—startups valued at over $1 billion—have built their business infrastructure on Google Cloud.

This new AI-focused initiative is the next logical step in this long-term investment. By focusing on AI, Google Cloud is positioning itself to help the next generation of Indonesian founders navigate the complexities of modern computing and data science.

What the Program Offers for Founders

The "Google for Startups Accelerator Southeast Asia: Indonesia, AI-Focused" is currently opening registration for its first wave, which will consist of 20 selected startups. This three-month program is notably equity-free, meaning founders do not have to give up any ownership in their companies to participate. Scheduled to begin in September 2025, the program offers a high-value package to those who successfully graduate.

One of the most significant perks is the provision of Google Cloud credits worth up to $350,000. These credits allow startups to scale their technical infrastructure without the immediate burden of high operational costs. Additionally, participants will gain direct access to Google Cloud’s specialized AI technology stack, which has been custom-built to meet the heavy demands of AI innovation.

Mentorship, Workshops, and Networking

The collaboration extends into physical spaces as well. The program will host a series of workshops at Kemkomdigi’s Digital Innovation Hub. These sessions are designed to equip startup teams with the practical knowledge and technical skills needed to master the Google Cloud AI stack.

Beyond technical training, the program offers a holistic support system. Participants will receive one-on-one project support and guidance from experts across Google’s ecosystem, including professionals from Google Cloud, Google Play, Android, and Google Ads. Kemkomdigi is also contributing through its "Founders Meet Experts" program, creating a bridge between new entrepreneurs and established industry veterans.

The journey culminates in a Demo Day, a high-stakes event where startups can showcase their AI-driven products to a curated audience of potential investors and ecosystem partners. This networking opportunity is critical for startups looking to secure future funding and strategic partnerships.

The Economic Impact: A Rp620 Trillion Vision

This partnership isn't just about technology; it’s about massive economic potential. Fanly Tanto projected that the collective business value resulting from this initiative could reach an astounding Rp620 trillion for Indonesia. By empowering these 100 startups, the program aims to ensure that the benefits of AI technology reach every corner of the archipelago, driving growth across various sectors and solidifying Indonesia's position as a digital powerhouse in Southeast Asia.
