The world is currently drowning in data, and for businesses, managing that digital weight is becoming increasingly expensive. In a significant move for the Indonesian SaaS landscape, Kecilin, a startup specializing in cutting-edge data compression, has officially announced it secured $4 million (approximately IDR 60 billion) in a Pre-Series A funding round. This fresh capital injection marks a pivotal moment for the company as it looks to solve the growing infrastructure challenges faced by modern enterprises.
This funding round was spearheaded by Mandiri Capital Indonesia (MCI), with a strong cohort of participating investors including Provident Growth, BNI Ventures, and existing investor Arkana. The backing from these heavy hitters underscores the immense potential of Kecilin’s proprietary technology in an era where cloud storage and bandwidth costs can make or break a company's bottom line.
Scaling Innovation and Global Ambitions
Christopher Farrel, the Chief Technology Officer and Founder of Kecilin, shared his vision for the company’s next chapter. According to Farrel, the primary focus for this capital will be the expansion of new business initiatives and the continuous refinement of their product suite. Farrel, who first gained prominence as the winner of the Wirausaha Muda Mandiri in 2018, emphasized that the support from institutional investors is more than just financial—it is a strategic bridge to larger markets.
Kecilin is committed to innovating its core products to provide greater value-added services. By strengthening their research and development, they aim to serve a broader market both within Indonesia and on the international stage. The goal is clear: to become a global leader in data efficiency, helping companies navigate the complexities of digital transformation without the prohibitive costs of data overhead.
The Tech Behind the 99% Compression Magic
What sets Kecilin apart in the crowded SaaS market is its unique compression algorithm. Developed by Farrel and co-founder Bisma Manda Samsu, the technology is capable of reducing the size of any data file—be it video, images, documents, or raw text—by up to 99%. Crucially, this is achieved without compromising the quality of the original file or altering its format. This "lossless-feel" experience is a game-changer for industries that rely heavily on high-fidelity data.

Currently, Kecilin has successfully commercialized several key products. Their CCTV compression tool is a standout, allowing businesses to significantly reduce the storage footprint of surveillance footage without losing visual clarity. Additionally, their on-premise compression solution allows enterprises to integrate Kecilin’s technology directly into their own servers, optimizing data handling at the source. These tools are designed to serve everyone from small-to-medium enterprises (SMEs) to massive corporations, focusing on two main pain points: reducing storage costs and accelerating data transfer speeds.
Strategic Partnerships and the Future Roadmap
Kecilin’s growth isn't just happening in a vacuum; it is deeply integrated into Indonesia's banking and digital ecosystem. The startup was a participant in the MCI Xponent Batch 2 program earlier this year, which led to a strategic cooperation agreement (PKS) with Bank Mandiri's IT Application Development Group. This partnership allows Bank Mandiri to leverage Kecilin’s services to streamline its digital banking activities, proving that the technology is robust enough for the highly regulated financial sector.
Dennis Pratistha, Chief Investment Officer at Mandiri Capital Indonesia, noted that as the digital economy grows, the volume of data stored and transferred by corporations will only continue to skyrocket. MCI views Kecilin as a potential market leader that can help businesses of all sizes mitigate the rising costs of bandwidth. This investment is part of MCI's broader strategy to build a sustainable and impactful national digital ecosystem.
Looking ahead, Farrel has set a three-year roadmap focused on vertical industry expansion and geographic growth. By developing new use cases and refining their tech stack, Kecilin plans to move beyond the Indonesian border, bringing their data-saving solutions to the global market. With the backing of major financial institutions and a proven product, Kecilin is well-positioned to redefine how the world handles its digital footprint.
