The landscape of Indonesia's digital connectivity is set for a massive leap forward as PT Solusi Sinergi Digital Tbk, widely known as Surge (WIFI), has officially entered into a strategic partnership with NTT e-Asia Corporation. This collaboration, formalized through a Consultation Services Cooperation Contract, focuses specifically on the development of Fiber To The Home (FTTH) infrastructure. By tapping into the global expertise of the NTT Group, one of the world’s most respected telecommunications giants based in Japan, Surge is positioning itself to become the primary engine behind Indonesia's digital transformation.

A Strategic Alliance for Digital Inclusion

The agreement was signed by the President Director of Surge, Yune Margatmo, and the Representative Director of NTT e-Asia Corporation, Yasuyuki Nagae. NTT e-Asia brings a wealth of experience in providing sophisticated IT services and solutions, leveraging the vast resources of the Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation (NTT). This partnership is not just a business deal; it is a calculated move to bridge the digital divide in Indonesia by utilizing world-class technical insights to optimize local infrastructure.

Building the Backbone of the Future

Surge is not starting from scratch. To date, the company has already established a formidable 7,000 km fiber optic backbone that runs along key transit routes, including railway lines and gas pipelines across the island of Java. This infrastructure is designed for high-capacity performance, with the company having invested in bandwidth capabilities reaching a staggering 64,000 Gbps. This massive capacity ensures that as demand for data grows, the network remains resilient and fast.

In addition to the fiber backbone, Surge is heavily invested in the future of Cloud Computing. They currently operate 58 Edge Data Centers (EDCs) strategically located in various cities throughout Java. The company’s roadmap is even more ambitious, with the potential to upgrade and expand these facilities to 592 locations. Currently, these Edge Data Centers are being utilized by global Cloud Providers to enhance Content Delivery Network (CDN) solutions, ensuring that digital content reaches users with minimal latency.

The Vision: Empowering 25 Million Households

The ultimate goal of this integrated digital ecosystem is to provide fast, reliable, and affordable internet access to 25 million households across Java. By lowering the barriers to entry for high-speed connectivity, Surge and NTT e-Asia aim to stimulate the growth of the local digital economy. This expansion is expected to have a ripple effect, improving everything from remote education and healthcare to the growth of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

Surge has already demonstrated significant momentum by completing the first phase of its development, which involved building 200,000 homepasses for local Internet Service Providers (ISPs). Furthermore, the company is currently finalizing collaborations with various operators to build an additional 1 million fixed broadband homepasses. The involvement of NTT e-Asia acts as a catalyst, providing the technical barometer and operational excellence needed to scale these efforts nationwide.

Leadership Perspectives on Sustainable Connectivity

Yasuyuki Nagae of NTT e-Asia expressed high optimism regarding the Indonesian market. He noted that NTT e-Asia has been closely monitoring the evolution of internet penetration in Southeast Asia, identifying Indonesia's fixed broadband market as a key area of interest. Nagae emphasized that Surge’s business model is unique because it balances effective investment with social goals, focusing on community welfare and long-term sustainability.

Echoing this sentiment, Yune Margatmo, President Director of Surge, highlighted that both companies share a vision for building a robust digital ecosystem. Margatmo believes that combining Surge’s extensive infrastructure with NTT e-Asia’s global expertise in FTTH business operations will create a synergy that benefits the entire nation. This collaboration is viewed as a pivotal milestone that will significantly impact digital transformation and the national economy.

A Growing Ecosystem of Prestigious Partners

PT Integration Network Ecosystems (part of the Surge group) already boasts a portfolio of approximately 200 reputable partners and clients. This list includes industry leaders such as NTT Indonesia, Starlink Services Indonesia, My Republic, Lightstorm, Huawei Cloud, Qualcomm, BDDC, Trans Hybrid Communication, and Pertamina Gas Negara. With such a strong network of allies and the new partnership with NTT e-Asia, Surge is well-positioned to serve as the backbone of Indonesia’s connectivity, driving value for both the national economy and every individual household it reaches.
