Generally, slugs ranging from 17 to 40 characters consistently outperformed both extremely short slugs (1-5 characters) and overly long, keyword-stuffed slugs (56+ characters).

The takeaway here isn't that a specific character count is a ranking factor, but rather that descriptive, concise URLs are easier for AI systems to parse and interpret. If your URLs are buried under excessive parameters or are too vague, you might be hindering your AI visibility.

The Power of Structured Data and Schema

OpenAI’s crawler has become increasingly active, appearing more frequently in site logs than ever before. Interestingly, Google AI Mode shows a much higher preference for pages with deep schema implementation—especially FAQ and Site Links Search Box markup—compared to ChatGPT Search.

Furthermore, the widespread presence of Open Graph and JSON-LD on cited pages suggests that AI platforms are adept at extracting metadata from multiple formats.
