Telkom’s Batam Data Center Sells Out Before Launch: A Massive Win for Indonesia’s AI Future

In the world of digital infrastructure, demand usually follows supply. However, PT Telkom Indonesia is experiencing the exact opposite in Batam. Through its data center arm, NeutraDC (PT Telkom Data Ekosistem), the company has announced that the first building of the NeutraDC Nxera Batam complex (BTM-1) is already fully booked. The most impressive part? It hasn't even officially started operations yet.

This unprecedented surge in interest has forced Telkom to put its expansion plans into overdrive. The company is already preparing the second building, BTM-2, to handle the overflow and meet the growing appetite for high-performance computing in the SIJORI region—the strategic economic triangle of Singapore, Johor, and Riau.

The AI Revolution Lands in Batam

One of the biggest names to secure a spot in the BTM-1 facility is Gorilla Technology. Headquartered in London, Gorilla Technology is a global powerhouse in artificial intelligence (AI), security, and data analytics. Their decision to anchor their regional operations in Batam is a massive vote of confidence for Indonesia’s infrastructure.

By partnering with NeutraDC, Gorilla Technology aims to deploy AI-ready infrastructure that will serve the entire Asian market. This move effectively positions NeutraDC Nxera Batam not just as a storage facility, but as a critical hub for the digital economy, specifically tailored for the heavy workloads required by cloud computing and modern AI applications.

Strategic Transformation and the TLKM 30 Vision

Seno Soemadji, Director of Strategic Business Development & Portfolio at Telkom Indonesia, noted that this success is a direct result of the company's "TLKM 30" strategy. Telkom is pivotally shifting from a traditional telco into a digital infrastructure leader. According to Soemadji, the fact that global players are trusting NeutraDC even before the doors open proves that Batam is becoming a vital node in the regional digital ecosystem.

“This achievement validates Telkom’s transformation toward a more focused and competitive business portfolio. As the demand for cloud services and AI skyrockets across Southeast Asia, we see digital infrastructure as the primary foundation for future economic growth,” Soemadji explained. He emphasized that the BTM-2 expansion is a proactive step to ensure Indonesia doesn't just watch the digital boom from the sidelines but leads it.

Batam: The Digital Gateway to Asia

Why Batam? The answer lies in geography and connectivity. Batam serves as a bridge between Indonesia’s domestic market and the global digital economy. Its proximity to Singapore makes it an ideal location for companies looking for low-latency connections while benefiting from Indonesia's space and resources.

Andreuw Th.A.F, CEO of NeutraDC Group, highlighted that securing global partners like Gorilla Technology is a momentum-shifter. He believes the high market interest validates their strategy of building infrastructure that meets international standards. It’s a clear signal that NeutraDC’s readiness and service quality are hitting the mark for the most demanding tech companies in the world.

Beyond Servers: Economic and Social Impact

It’s not just about racks and cables. The development of the NeutraDC Nxera Batam complex is expected to have a ripple effect on the local economy. Beyond attracting foreign investment, the project is set to create high-value jobs and foster a new generation of local digital talent.

Indrama YM Purba, CEO of NeutraDC Nxera Batam, pointed out that the facility’s ultimate 100 MW capacity is being built with a sharp focus on sustainability. In an era where data centers are criticized for their energy consumption, Telkom is committing to global operational standards, including energy-efficient technologies and eco-friendly practices.

As AI and cloud computing continue to redefine the global economy, NeutraDC Nxera Batam is proving to be the right project at the right time. By bridging the gap between national digital transformation and regional hub status, Telkom is ensuring that Indonesia remains a central player in the AI era.
