XL Home POW: The 300 Mbps Disruptor Shaking Up Indonesia's Broadband Market

XL Axiata is making a bold move to redefine the home internet landscape in Indonesia. With the official launch of XL Home POW, the telecommunications giant is no longer just a mobile player; it is now positioning itself as a major disruptor in the fixed broadband sector. The value proposition is undeniably aggressive: fiber-optic internet offering speeds of up to 300 Mbps for just Rp300,000 per month. This "POW" branding isn't just for show—it is a direct challenge to established players who typically charge much higher rates for similar bandwidth.
A Strategic Pivot Toward Fixed Infrastructure
This expansion didn't happen in a vacuum. Rumors about XL’s entry into the fixed broadband market have been circulating since the beginning of the year. As the traditional mobile telecommunications business begins to saturate and slow down, diversification has become a necessity. We saw the first signs of this strategic shift last year when XL sold its e-commerce platform, Elevenia, to the Salim Group, signaling a return to its core strengths in infrastructure.
According to Abhijit Navalekar, XL’s Director of Corporate Strategy & Business Development, moving into fixed broadband is a natural evolution. Since XL is fundamentally an infrastructure company, expanding into the home market leverages its existing assets. While XL Home previously offered wireless-based solutions, Home POW represents a more complete, high-performance strategy to dominate the household segment.
Fiber to the Home and Technical Deployment
The technical backbone of Home POW is built on fiber-optic technology, ensuring that high-speed connectivity reaches the "last mile"—right into the customer's living room. Navalekar explains that the service is a sophisticated blend of fiber and wireless internet, optimized based on the network availability in specific areas. While initial availability is concentrated in the Jabodetabek region with online orders opening on May 2nd, the long-term goal is clear: widespread market penetration.
Currently, the focus is squarely on residential customers, but XL is already looking ahead. The company has indicated that market expansion into the Small Office/Home Office (SOHO) and corporate segments is very much on the roadmap for the future.

Unbeatable Pricing and the POW Factor
The most striking aspect of XL Home POW is the price point. In a market where 300 Mbps packages usually command prices of at least Rp1 million per month, XL’s Rp300,000 offering is a massive outlier. It is a price-to-performance ratio that hasn't been seen before in the local industry, designed specifically to "disturb" the status quo and force competitors to react to a new standard of value.
More Than Just Speed: The Entertainment Ecosystem
XL isn't just selling a pipe; they are selling a full entertainment experience. Each subscription includes a Google-licensed Android Oreo set-top box. This isn't a basic device; it features voice-search functionality via remote control, supporting over 30 languages, and includes a dedicated "KidzMode" to ensure a safe browsing environment for children.
On the content side, the bundle is packed with value. Customers receive free access to iFlix and a variety of live channels, including Kompas TV, Sport Illustrated, and various e-Sports networks. To sweeten the deal, there is a 30-day free trial for Netflix and a trial for CatchPlay. Interestingly, XL is also leaning into the gaming subculture by partnering with Team nxl, one of Indonesia’s premier e-sports organizations, to support the local competitive scene.
A Commitment to Service Quality
Navalekar is transparent about why this product exists. He notes that XL Home POW is a direct response to the widespread frustration Indonesian consumers face regarding inconsistent and slow internet services. To ensure this isn't just another empty promise, XL has established a dedicated team specifically for technical and customer service. By controlling the fiber-optic infrastructure, XL aims to provide a stable, high-speed foundation that supports the next generation of home entertainment and digital productivity.
